Stay Safe! Lesson 1
A. Look at the pictures and talk about them (ছবিগুলি দেখ এবং সেগুলি সম্পর্কে কথা বল).

1. The picture 1 shows the scenery after an earthquake (১ নং ছবিতে ভূমিকম্পের পরের দৃশ্যাবলী দেখানো হয়েছে). Many houses and furniture are seen damaged (অনেক ঘরবাড়ি ও আসবাবপত্রের ধ্বংসাবশেষ দেখা যাচ্ছে).

B. Read and say (পড় এবং বলো). Write the number of the picture from Activity A next to the correct word (সঠিক শব্দের পাশে কাজ A থেকে নেয়া ছবির সংখ্যা লিখ).

C. Listen, say and read (শুন, বল এবং পড়).
Anita: Officer, we heard about the earthquake in Nepal (কর্মকর্তা, আমরা নেপালে ভূমিকম্পের কথা শুনেছি). It was terrible (এটা ভয়ানক ছিল).
Asad: Yes, I'm very sad about it (হ্যাঁ, আমি এর জন্য খুবই দুঃখবোধ করছি).
Anita: I'm afraid (আমি ভীত). There are many disasters in the world (পৃথিবীতে অনেক দুর্যোগ আছে). Last month, we lost some of our land because of river erosion, and last year, a cyclone destroyed many buildings and trees (গত মাসে, নদী ভাঙনের কারণে আমরা আমাদের কিছু জমি হারিয়েছি, এবং গত বছর, একটি সাইক্লোন অনেক ভবন এবং গাছপালা ধ্বংস করেছে)! E. Groupwork (দলের কাজ). Have you experienced a natural disaster in your life (তুমি কি তোমার জীবনে কোন প্রাকৃতিক দুর্যোগের সম্মুখীন হয়েছ)? What kind of natural disaster was it (এটা কি ধরনের প্রাকৃতিক দুর্যোগ ছিল)? When was it (এটা কখন ছিল)? Or imagine a disaster (অথবা একটি দুর্যোগ কল্পনা কর).
Answer:
Mina: Have you experienced a terrible disaster in 2009 (তুমি কি ২০০৯ সালে একটি ভয়ানক দুর্যোগের সম্মুখীন হয়েছে). It was on 30 june (সেটা ছিল ৩০ জুন). In the afternoon, the wind started to blow and the sky was dark (বিকেলে, বাতাস বইতে শুরু করে এবং আকাশ অন্ধকার ছিল). By the evening the river was rising (সন্ধ্যার দিকে নদীটি ফুলে উঠেছিল). Everyone was afraid (সবাই ভয় পেয়েছিল). I along with my parents took shelter under the cot (আমি আমার বাবা-মায়ের সাথে খাটের নীচে আশ্রয় নিয়েছিলাম). Suddenly we heard an awful noise and the roof of our house blew away (হঠাৎ আমরা একটি ভয়ানক শব্দ শুনতে পেলাম এবং আমাদের বাড়ির ছাদ উড়ে গেল). The next day was awful (পরের দিনটা ছিল ভয়ানক). Many people were missing (অনেক মানুষ নিখোঁজ ছিল). Some of them were found dead (তাদের মধ্যে কয়েকজনকে মৃত অবস্থায় পাওয়া গেল).

Raju: Do you have any dried foods in your home (তোমার বাড়িতে কি কোন শুকনো খাবার আছে)?

H. Complete the sentences with the correct word from Activity F (কাজ F থেকে সঠিক শব্দ দিয়ে বাক্যগুলি সম্পূর্ণ কর).

I. Listen (শ্রবণ কর). Complete the leaflet with the words you hear (তুমি যেসব কথা শুনেছ তা দিয়ে প্রচারপত্রটি সম্পূর্ণ কর).
STAY SAFE!
Be prepared for earthquake (ভূমিকম্পের জন্য প্রস্তুত থাক). They can happen at any time (এগুলি যে কোনও সময় ঘটতে পারে).
# Before an earthquake (ভূমিকম্পের আগে)
Keep some food and water in your home (তোমার বাড়িতে কিছু খাবার এবং পানি রাখ). You will also need a torch because there may not be any electricity for a few days (তোমার একটি টর্চেরও প্রয়োজন হবে কারণ কয়েক দিনের জন্য কোনও বিদ্যুৎ নাও থাকতে পারে). You should have some batteries for your torch, too (তোমার টর্চের জন্যও তোমার কিছু ব্যাটারি থাকা উচিত).
# During an earthquake (ভূমিকম্পের সময়)
If you are in a building, get under a strong furniture/desk/table (তুমি যদি কোনও বিল্ডিংয়ে থাক তবে একটি শক্তিশালী আসবাবপত্র / ডেস্ক / টেবিলের নীচে যাও). Do not run down the stairs (সিঁড়ি দিয়ে নিচে নামবে না). If you are outside, stay away from buildings or walls/structures/pillars (তুমি যদি বাইরে থাক তবে বিল্ডিং বা দেয়াল / কাঠামো / স্তম্ভ থেকে দূরে থাক).
# After an earthquake (ভূমিকম্পের পর)
Do not go inside a building unless it is safe (নিরাপদ না হওয়া পর্যন্ত কোনও বিল্ডিংয়ের ভিতরে যাবে না). If you have any cuts, get your first-aid kit and cover the cut with a clear bandage (তোমার যদি কোনও স্থান কেটে যায় তবে তোমার প্রাথমিক চিকিৎসা সরঞ্জাম নাও এবং একটি পরিষ্কার ব্যান্ডেজ দিয়ে কাটাটি ঢেকে দাও). Sometimes there are aftershocks after an earthquake (কখনও কখনও ভুমিকম্পের পরে আবার ঝাকুনি দেখা যায়).
J. Read the completed leaflet from Activity I (কাজ I থেকে সম্পূর্ণ করা প্রচারপত্রটি পড়).
