The Best Friend – প্রিয় বন্ধু

A. Read what Flora said to Farabi and then read the story (ফ্লোরা ফারাবিকে কী বলল তা পড় এবং পরবর্তীতে গল্পটি পড়).

‘’Don’t be sad, Farabi, and don’t think seriously about what your friend Harun did (‘ফারাবি, তুমি দুঃখ পেও না এবং তোমার বন্ধু হারুন যা করেছে সে সম্পর্কে বেশি চিন্তা করো না)….. I know a study about friends (আমি বন্ধু সম্পর্কে একটি গল্প জানি ). Listen (শোন).’’

Two friends were walking through a desert (দুজন বন্ধু একটি মরুভুমির মধ্য দিয়্যে হাঁটছিল). After a while they had a quarrel, and one friend slapped the other (কিছুক্ষন পর তাদের মধ্যে ঝগড়া হলো এবং এক বন্ধু অপর বন্ধুর গালে থাপ্পড় মারল). The friend who got slapped was hurt (যে বন্ধু থাপ্পড় খেল সে মনোকষ্ট/আঘাত পেল). But without saying anything he wrote in the sand (কিন্তু কোনো কিছু না বলে সে বালির উপর লিখল):

Today my best friend slapped me in the face (আজ আমার সবচেয়ে ভাল বন্ধু আমার গালে থাপ্পড় বসিয়ে দিল).

They kept walking until they found an oasis (একটি মরূদ্যান না পাওয়া পর্যন্ত তারা হাটতে থাকল). There they decided to take a bath (সেখানে তারা গোসল করার সিধান্ত নিল). The one who was slapped before got stuck in the quicksand and started going down (যে বন্ধু পূর্বে থাপ্পড় খেয়েছিল সে চোরাবালিতে আটকে গেল ও ডুবে যেতে শুরু করল). But his friend saved him (কিন্তু তার বন্ধু তাকে রক্ষা করল). After he was saved he wrote on a stone (রক্ষা পাওয়ার পর সে একটি পাথরের উপর লিখল):

Today my best friend saved my life (আজ আমার সবচেয়ে ভালো বন্ধু আমার জীবন বাঁচাল).

The friend who slapped and saved best friend asked, ‘After I hurt you, you wrote in the sand and now you write on a stone. (যে বন্ধুটি তাকে থাপ্পড় মেরেছিল এবং তার বন্ধুর জীবন বাঁচাল সে জিজ্ঞাসা করল, ‘আমি তোমাকে থাপ্পড় মারার পর তুমি তা বালির উপর লিখেছিলে এখন তুমি পাথরের উপর লিখলে) Why (কেন)?’

The other friend replied, ‘When someone hurts us, we should write it down in the sand (অন্য বন্ধু জবাব দিল, ‘যখন কেউ আমাদের আঘাত করে, আমাদের উচিৎ তা বালির উপর লিখে রাখা). The wind can erase it away (বাতাস এটিকে সহজেই মুছে ফেলবে). But when someone does something good for us, we should engrave it on stone (কিন্তু যখন কেউ আমাদের জন্য ভালো কিছু করে, আমাদের উচিৎ তা পাথরের বুকে খোদাই করে লেখা). so no wind can erase it (যাতে কোনো বাতাস এটিকে মুছে ফেলতে না পারে).’

‘Do you know the moral of the story (তুমি কি এই গল্পটির নীতিকঠাটি জানো)?’ Flora asked (ফ্লোরা জিজ্ঞাসা করল).

Farabi nodded and smiled, ‘Yes, we should forget our hurts, but remember our good deeds forever (ফারাবি মাথা নাড়াল এবং হাসল, ‘হ্যাঁ, আমাদের উচিৎ আঘাতগুলো ভুলে যাওয়া কিন্তু ভালো কাজগুলো চিরদিনের জন্য স্মরণ রাখা).’

B. Match the words / phrases with their meanings (শব্দগুলো / শব্দগুচ্ছগুলোকে তাদের অর্থের সাথে মিল কর).

Meanings (অর্থসমূহ):

c. cut words or designs on stone or wood (পাথর বা কাঠ কেটে লেখা অথবা নকশা করা).

d. got physical pain when someone hits you or your fall (শারীরিক কষ্ট পাওয়া যখন কেঊ তোমাকে আঘাত করে অথবা তুমি পড়ে যাও).

e. deep wet sand that works like a trap (গভীর ভেজা ভালি যেটি ফাঁদের মত কাজ করে ). If you walk on it, you will sink into it (যদি তুমি এটির উপর হাঁটতে যাও তাহলে তুমি এর মধ্য ডুবে যাবে).

C. Discuss in groups and write an answer to this question (দলবদ্ধভাবে আলোচনা কর এবং এই প্রশ্নের উত্তর লেখ): Why should we forgive those who hurt us (যারা আমাদের আঘাত দেয় তাদেরকে আমাদের ক্ষমা করে দেওয়া উচিৎ কেন)?

Answer:

Nadia : Do you think we should forgive those who hurt us (তোমরা কি মনে কর যারা আমাদের আঘাত করে তাদেরকে আমাদের ক্ষমা করে দেওয়া উচিৎ)?

Mamun : Yes, of course (হ্যাঁ, অবশ্যই).

Manna : Why do you think so (তোমার কেন এমনটি মনে হয়)?

Mamun : Forgiveness is a great virtue (ক্ষমা একটি মহৎ গুণ). Allah forgives those who forgive others (আল্লাহ তাদের ক্ষমা করেন যারা অন্যদের ক্ষমা করেন).

Latika : And we should give his / her a chance to correct himself (এবং আমাদের উচিৎ তাকে একটা সুযোগ দেয়া যাতে সে নিজেকে সংশোধন করতে পারে).

Maimuna : It develops mutual understanding and strengthens social bondage (এটি পারস্পরিক বোঝাপড়ার উন্নয়ন ঘটায় এবং সামাজিক বন্ধন দৃঢ় করে).

Nadia : You all are right (তোমরা সকলে ঠিক বলেছ). We must forgive others in order to establish mental and social peace (মানসিক ও সামাজিক শান্তি প্রতিষ্ঠা করতে আমরা অবশ্যই অন্যদের ক্ষমা করব).
