The Selfish Giant (2) – স্বার্থপর দৈত্য (২)

A. Continue reading the story (গল্পটি পড়া চালিয়ে যাও).

The children had now nowhere to play (বাচ্চাদের এখন খেলার জায়গা ছিল না). There were no gardens around and the roads were busy and crowded (আশেপাশে কোন বাগান ছিল না এবং রাস্তাগুলি ব্যস্ত এবং ভিড় ছিল). After school they used to go round the high wall and talk about the beautiful garden inside (বিদ্যালয় শেষে তারা উঁচু দেয়ালের চারপাশে ঘুরত এবং বাগানের ভিতরের সৌনদর্য্য সম্পর্কে কথা বলত). ''How happy we were there!" they said to each other ("আমরা সেখানে কত খুশি ছিলাম!" তারা একে অপরকে বলল).

Q1.  What do you think the children would do now (ছেলেমেয়েরা এখন কী করবে বলে তুমি মনে কর)?

Answer:

I think they will try to enter into the garden (আমি মনে করি তারা বাগানে ঢোকার চেষ্টা করবে).

Then came the spring (তারপর বসন্ত এল). And all over the country there were flowers and there were birds (এবং সারা দেশে ফুল এবং পাখিতে পরিপূর্ণ ছিল). Only in the garden of the Giant it was still winter (শুধু দৈত্যের বাগানে তখনও শীত ছিল). Here no birds were singing and no flowers blossoming (এখানে কোন পাখি গান গায়নি এবং কোন ফুল ফোটেনি). There were only snow and frost and north wind in it (সেখানে কেবল তুষার এবং হিম এবং উত্তরের বাতাস ছিল).

''I cannot understand why the spring is so late in coming (আমি বুঝতে পারছি না বসন্ত আসতে এত দেরি কেন করছে)." said the Giant (দৈত্যটি বলল). He was sitting at the window of his big castle and looking out at his cold, dry and lifeless garden (সে তার বড় দুর্গের জানালায় বসে তার শীতল, শুকনো এবং প্রাণহীন বাগানের দিকে তাকিয়ে ছিল). ''I hope there will be a change in the weather (''আমি আশা করি আবহাওয়ার পরিবর্তন হবে).” But neither spring nor summer came to his garden (কিন্তু তার বাগানে বসন্ত বা গ্রীষ্ম আসেনি).

B. Discuss in groups and write answer to this question (দলে দলে আলোচনা কর এবং এই প্রশ্নের উত্তর লিখ):

What happens in a garden in winter (শীতকালে বাগানে কি হয়)?

Answer:

Group A: In winter, it frosts (শীতকালে, তুষারপাত হয়). Trees are covered with snow (গাছপালা তুষারাবৃত হয়). They shed off their leaves (এগুলোর পাতা ঝরে যায়). There is also no flower (কোন ফুলও থাকে না).

Group B: A garden looks bare and lifeless in winter (একটি বাগান শীতকালে শূন্য এবং প্রাণহীন দেখায়). Birds do not come to the garden to sing songs (পাখিরা গান গাইতে বাগানে আসে না).

C. Suppose you are one of the children who were not allowed to play in the Giant's garden (ধর তুমি সেই শিশুদের মধ্যে একজন যাকে দৈত্যের বাগানে খেলতে দেওয়া হয়নি). In this situation (এই পরিস্থিতিতে):

1. What would you like to tell the Giant (তুমি দৈত্যকে কি বলবে)?

2. What do you think the Giant would tell you (তোমার কি মনে হয়, দৈত্য তোমাকে কি বলবে)?

Answer:

1. I will try to convince the Giant to allow us to play in the garden (আমি দৈত্যকে বোঝানোর চেষ্টা করবো যাতে সে আমাদের বাগানে খেলার অনুমতি দেয়).

2. I think the Giant will allow us to play in the garden (আমি মনে করি দৈত্যটি আমাদের বাগানে খেলতে দিবে).
