Mother Earth in Crisis – বসুমাতা সংকটাপন্ন
A. Read the text and the conversation (পাঠ্য এবং কথোপকথনটি পড়).
Samina is in class 7 and Arif in class 6 (সামিনা ৭ম শ্রেণীতে আর আরিফ ষষ্ঠ শ্রেণীতে পড়ে). They both felt very uncomfortable the other day (তারা দুজনেই খুব অস্বস্তি বোধ করেছিল অন্যন্য দিনের তুলনায়). It was just the beginning of March (এটা তো সবে মাত্র মার্চের শুরু ছিল). And the day was very hot (এবং দিনটি খুব গরম ছিল). In the small town of Sherpur, summer had come with all its heat and warmth (ছোট শহর শেরপুরে, গ্রীষ্ম তার সমস্ত তাপ এবং উষ্ণতা নিয়ে এসেছিল). Samina and Arif had nothing much to do (সামিনা এবং আরিফের খুব বেশি কিছু করার ছিল না). While sitting idle on the veranda, they saw their uncle, Anwar coming to them (বারান্দায় অলস বসে থাকার সময়, তারা তাদের চাচা, আনোয়ারকে তাদের কাছে আসতে দেখেছিল). Anwar works at an NGO called Save the Earth (আনোয়ার সেভ দ্য আর্থ নামে একটি এনজিওতে কাজ করেন). Samina and Arif started talking to their uncle about weather and climate (সামিনা এবং আরিফ আবহাওয়া এবং জলবায়ু সম্পর্কে তাদের চাচার সাথে কথা বলতে শুরু করে).

Anwar: In fact, we've an early summer this year (আসলে, আমরা এই বছরে গ্রীষ্ম আগেই চলে আসছে). It's been happening for the last four or five years (গত চার-পাঁচ বছর ধরে এটা ঘটছে). Seasons are shifting (ঋতু স্থানান্তরিত হচ্ছে).
Arif: What's shifting, Uncle (স্থানান্তরিত কি, চাচা)?
Anwar: Summer usually starts from April (গ্রীষ্মকাল সাধারণত এপ্রিল থেকে শুরু হয়). But this year it has started in March (কিন্তু এ বছর তা শুরু হয়েছে মার্চে). This moving from April to March is a shift or change (এই প্রক্রিয়া এপ্রিল থেকে মার্চে স্থানান্তরিত বা পরিবর্তিত হয়েছে).
Samina: Why do seasons shift, Uncle (কেন ঋতু স্থান্তরিত হয়, চাচা)?
Anwar: Well (বেশ)! This is for climate change (এটি জলবায়ু পরিবর্তনের জন্য হয়). And many things are happening on this earth due to climate change (এবং জলবায়ু পরিবর্তনের কারণে এই পৃথিবীতে অনেক কিছু ঘটছে). For example, seasons are shifting, temperatures are climbing, and sea levels are rising (উদাহরণস্বরূপ, ঋতু স্থানন্তরিত হচ্ছে, তাপমাত্রা আরোহণ করছে, এবং সমুদ্রপৃষ্ঠের উচ্চতা বাড়ছে). If things go on like this, our Mother Earth will be in danger (যদি এভাবে চলতে থাকে, তাহলে আমাদের বসুমাতা বিপদে পড়বে).
Samina: Uncle, what will happen if the earth is in danger (চাচা, পৃথিবী বিপদে পড়লে কি হবে)? How will we survive on this earth (এই পৃথিবীতে আমরা কিভাবে বেঁচে থাকব)?
Anwar: Well, I am going to give you a booklet now (ঠিক আছে, আমি তোমাদেরকে এখন একটি পুস্তিকা দিতে যাচ্ছি). Please read it and you'll know more about climate change (অনুগ্রহ করে এটি পড় এবং তোমরা জলবায়ু পরিবর্তন সম্পর্কে আরও জানতে পারবে).
