A. Listen and read (শোন এবং পড়).

Asif : Excuse me (মাফ করবেন)! Could you tell me the way to the railway station, please (দয়া করে আপনি কি আমাকে স্টেশনে যাওয়ার পথটি বলে দিবেন)?

Passenger-by : Oh, it’s not very far (ওহ, এটি খুব দূরে নয়). Go along this street and you’ll come to a big crossroads (আপনি এ রাস্তা বরাবর যাবেন এবং বড় একটি রাস্তার সংযোগ স্থান পাবেন). Turn left (বামে মোড় নেবেন). Go along about two hundred metres, and you will see a tall building (আর দুইশত মিটার সামনে যাবেন এবং একটি উচু ভবন দেখতে পাবেন). Go past and the station is on the right (এটি অতিক্রম করে গেলেই ডান দিকে স্টেশনটি পাবেন).

Asif : Go along (বরাবর যেতে হবে) – come to crossroads (রাস্তার সংযোগস্থানে আসতে হবে) – turn left (বা দিকে মোড় নিতে হবে) – go about two hundred metres (দুইশত মিটার যেতে হবে) – tall building (লম্বা দালান) – station on the right (স্টেশন ডান দিকে). Thank you so much (আপনাকে অনেক ধন্যবাদ).

Passer-by : It’s OK (ঠিক আছে).

B. Look at the map (মানচিত্রটির দিকে তাকাও). Suppose you are now on Park Road and you want to go to Mosque Road or Zilla School (মনে কর, তুমি এখন পার্ক রোডে আর তুমি মসজিদে রোডে অথবা জেলা স্কুলে যেতে চাও). Ask your partner how you can go there (তোমার সঙ্গীকে জিজ্ঞাসা কর কীভাবে সেখানে যাবে).

Answer:

S₁ : Excuse me (আমাকে মাফ করবেন). How can I go to Mosque Road (কীভাবে আমি মসজিদ রোডে যেতে পারি)?

S₂ : Oh, it’s quite far--- (ওহ, এটি বেশ দূরে--).

S₁ : No problem (সমস্যা নেই), I shall make it (আমি ব্যবস্থা করে নিব).

S₂ : OK, go along and turn left (ঠিক আছে, সামনে যাও এবং বামে মোড় নাও). You will have a colony road, then turn left (তুমি কলোনি রোড পাবে, তারপর বা দিকে মোড় নাও). Walk sometimes and turn right (কিছুক্ষন সামনে হাঁটো এবং ডান দিকে মোড় নাও). Go along, then you will have Mosque Road (সামনে যাও তারপর তুমি মসজিদ রোড পাবে).

S₁ : Go along (সোজা যাব)– turn left (বামে মোড় নিব)- Colony road (কলোনি রোড) – turn left (বামে মোড় নিব)– go straight (সোজা যাব) – turn right (ডানে মোড় নিব) – then Mosque Road (তারপর মসজিদ রোড়). Thank you so much (আপনাকে অনেক ধন্যবাদ).

S₂ : You are welcome (তোমাকে স্বাগতম).

C. Work in pairs (যুগ্মভাবে কাজ কর). Ask for and give directions to a place in your own upazilla, town or city (তোমার নিজ উপজেলা, শহর অথবা নগরের কোনো একটি জায়গা সম্পর্কে দিক নির্দেশনা দাও).

Answer:

Ritu : Could you tell me the way to the New market, please (তুমি কি আমাকে নিউ মার্কেটের পথ সম্পর্কে বলতে পার)?

Raja : Oh, it is not so far from here (ওহ, এটি এখান থেকে খুব বেশী দূরে নয়). Go straight and turn left (সোজা যাও এবং বামে মোড় নাও). Then you will see a play-ground (তারপর তুমি একটি খেলার মাঠ দেখতে পাবে). After passing the play-ground you will see a school (খেলার মাঠ অতিক্রম করলে তুমি একটি বিদ্যালয় দেখতে পাবে). Turn right and go along 200 metres and you will get New Market at the right side (ডানদিকে যাও ও সোজাসুজি ২০০ মিটার যাও এবং ডান দিকে নিউ মার্কেট পেয়ে যাবে).
