The Selfish Giant (3) – স্বার্থপর দৈত্য (৩)

A. Continue reading the story (গল্পটি পড়া চালিয়ে যাও).

One morning the Giant was lying awake in bed when he heard some lovely music (একদিন সকালে দৈত্য বিছানায় জাগ্রত অবস্থায় শুয়েছিল যখন সে কিছু মনোমুগ্ধকর গান শুনতে পেল). It was so sweet to his ears that he thought it must be the King’s musicians passing by (এটি তার কানে এতই মিষ্টি ছিল যে সে ভেবেছিল এটি অবশ্যই রাজার সংগীতশিল্পীরা পাশ দিয়ে যাচ্ছে). But in fact, it was only a little bird singing outside his window (কিন্তু প্রকৃতপক্ষে, এটি কেবল তার জানালার বাইরে একটি ছোট্ট পাখি গান করছিল). Then the north wind stopped and a delicious perfume came to him through the open window (তারপর উত্তরের বাতাস থেমে গেল এবং খোলা জানালা দিয়ে একটি সুস্বাদু সুগন্ধি তার কাছে এল). "I believe the spring has come at last," said the Giant ("আমি বিশ্বাস করি বসন্ত শেষ পর্যন্ত এসেছে," দৈত্য বলল). He jumped out of bed and looked out (সে বিছানা থেকে লাফিয়ে উঠল এবং বাইরে তাকাল). What did he see (সে কি দেখতে পেল)?

He saw the most wonderful sight (সে সবচেয়ে বিস্ময়কর দৃশ্য দেখতে পেল). Through a little hole in the wall the children crept in and they were sitting on the branches of the trees (দেয়ালের একটি ছোট ছিদ্র দিয়ে শিশুরা ভেতরে ঢুকে পড়ে এবং তারা গাছের ডালে বসে ছিল). In every tree there was a little child (প্রতিটি গাছে একটি করে ছোট শিশু ছিল). And the trees were so delighted to have the children back again that they covered themselves with blossoms (এবং গাছগুলি বাচ্চাদের আবার ফিরে পেয়ে এতই আনন্দিত হয়েছিল যে তারা ফুল দিয়ে নিজেদেরকে ঢেকে ফেলেছিল). They were waving their arms gently above the children's heads (তারা বাচ্চাদের মাথার উপরে আলতো করে তাদের ডালগুলো নাড়ছিল). The birds were flying about and twittering delightfully (পাখিরা উড়ে বেড়াচ্ছিল এবং আনন্দে কিচির মিচির করছিল). The flowers were looking up through the green grass and laughing (ফুলগুলো সবুজ ঘাসের মধ্যে দিয়ে তাকাচ্ছিল এবং হাসছিল).

But only in one corner of the garden, it was still winter (কিন্তু বাগানের এক কোণে তখনও শীত ছিল). There, under a tree, a little boy was standing alone crying (সেখানে একটি গাছের নিচে একটি ছোট ছেলে একা দাঁড়িয়ে কাঁদছিল). He was so small that he could not reach up to the branches of the tree (সে এতই ছোট ছিল যে গাছের ডাল পর্যন্ত পৌঁছাতে পারেনি). The poor tree was still covered with snow, and the north wind was blowing above it (অসহায় গাছটি তখনও তুষারে ঢাকা ছিল এবং তার ওপর দিয়ে উত্তরের বাতাস বইছিল).

Raju: When the spring came, the trees covered themselves with blossoms (যখন বসন্ত আসল গাছগুলো নিজেদের ফুলে ফুলে ঢেকে দিল). The flowers were looking up through the green grass and laughing (ফুলগুলো সবুজ ঘাসের মধ্যে দিয়ে তাকাচ্ছিল এবং হাসছিল). The birds were flying about and singing (পাখিরা উড়ে বেড়াচ্ছিল আর গান গাইছিল).

Raju: One corner of the garden still had winter because the little child standing there could not climb any tree (বাগানের এক কোণে তখনও শীত ছিল কারণ সেখানে দাঁড়িয়ে থাকা ছোট্ট শিশুটি কোনো গাছে উঠতে পারেনি). The tree standing there was still covered with snow and north wind was blowing above it (সেখানে দাঁড়িয়ে থাকা গাছটি তখনও তুষারে ঢাকা ছিল এবং তার উপর দিয়ে উত্তরের বাতাস বইছিল).
