Happy Birthday Lesson 1
A. Listen and read (শোন আর পড়).
A person's birthday is a special day (একজন ব্যক্তির জন্মদিন একটি বিশেষ দিন). This is the date when the person was born (এটি সেই তারিখ যখন ব্যক্তিটি জন্মগ্রহণ করেছিল). People around the world celebrate birthdays in different ways (সারা বিশ্বের মানুষ বিভিন্নভাবে জন্মদিন পালন করে). In many countries, people celebrate with a cake (অনেক দেশে, মানুষ একটি কেক দিয়ে উদযাপন করে). There are candles on the cake (কেকের উপর মোমবাতি থাকে). There is one candle for each year of the person's life (ব্যক্তির জীবনের প্রতিটি বছরের জন্য একটি মোমবাতি থাকে). People sing a song for the person (লোকজন ব্যক্তিটির জন্য একটি গান গায়). At the end of the song, the person blows out the candles (গানের শেষে, ব্যক্তিটি মোমবাতিগুলি নিভিয়ে দেয়).
In some countries, there is often a party for a child's birthday (কিছু দেশে, প্রায়শই একটি শিশুর জন্মদিনের জন্য একটি পার্টি থাকে). The child's friends come to the home (বাচ্চার বন্ধুরা বাড়িতে আসে). There is special food, like sweets (মিষ্টি জাতীয় বিশেষ খাবার থাকে). The children play games and sing (বাচ্চারা খেলাধুলা করে এবং গান গায়). The friends often bring a birthday gift for the child (বন্ধুরা প্রায়শই শিশুর জন্য জন্মদিনের উপহার নিয়ে আসে). The gifts are wrapped in colourful paper (উপহারগুলি রঙিন কাগজে মোড়ানো থাকে). The gift may be a toy, a book or some clothes (উপহারটি একটি খেলনা, একটি বই বা কিছু পোশাক হতে পারে). In some countries, the friends don't bring gifts (কিছু দেশে, বন্ধুরা উপহার নিয়ে আসে না). The most important thing is to enjoy the day and spend time with friends and family (সবচেয়ে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ বিষয় হল দিনটি উপভোগ করা এবং বন্ধু ও পরিবারের সাথে সময় কাটানো).

On this day in 1952, students in Dhaka gave their lives for their mother language (১৯৫২ সালের এই দিনে ঢাকার শিক্ষার্থীরা তাদের মাতৃভাষার জন্য তাদের জীবন উৎসর্গ করে).
